Toshiaki “Toshi” Kawasaki, 79, of Hilo, died March 14 at Hilo Medical Center. Born May 21, 1932, in Kohala, he was a retired elementary school teacher teaching most of his career at Hilo Union School and member of the Church of the Holy Cross, Y’s Men & Women International Service Club and the Ainako Association.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. March 23 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 4 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire and no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Yasue Kawasaki, of Hilo; son, Kevin (Suzanne) Kawasaki, of Alexandria, Va.; daughter, Kathy (Guy) Saruwatari, of Broomfield, Colo.; sisters, Alison (Charles) Kita, of Kohala, Naomi (Robert) Abe, of Kaneohe, Oahu; three grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
